Get a traditional hand embroidered EasterBasket/Pascha by the village
women in Western Ukraine. Grandmothers pass on the Ukrainian Easter customs to their grandchildren. They encourage them to prepare a small Easter Basket with food products. For the smaller baskets we offer smaller sized linen squares ON PAGE 3. The villagers in south-west Ukraine also use the word PASKA ( Easter Bread) to mean Easter. PAS-KHA (PASCHA) relates to the Jewish Passover or to the Christian Easter. The paschal lamb eaten at the Passover festival symbolizes Christ. Due to a combination of factors the tradition is that Easter must follow the Jewish Passover but never precede for coincide with it. This means that Passover and Easter are celebrated within days of each other with the dates between March 22nd and April 25, inclusive. |
